March 2 - the day Uzbekistan became a member of the UN

The United Nations (UN) is an international organization established to strengthen peace and security on Earth, and to develop mutual cooperation between states.

The decision to establish the United Nations was made in 1945 at the Council of Foreign Ministers of the former Union, the United States, England and China in Moscow in 1943, and the Charter was adopted at the San Francisco Conference in 1945. The UN Charter was initially signed by 51 countries. In 2000, their number reached 189. The permanent place of work (headquarters) of the UN is New York City.

As stated in the UN Charter, it is a center that harmonizes the movement of nations to achieve common goals, with the aim of maintaining international peace and security, the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples, the development of friendly relations between nations, and the provision of cooperation between nations in solving economic, social, and cultural problems.

Uzbekistan became a member of the UN on March 2, 1992, shortly after declaring its independence. On this day, the national flag of the Republic of Uzbekistan was raised in front of the building of the UN General Assembly. On October 24, 1993, the representative office of the UN in Tashkent was opened, together with this, the representative office of the Republic of Uzbekistan at the UN began to work.
