Dictionary meaning of the term
According to research, there are several opinions among scholars and local residents regarding the origin of the place name. The first assumption: in the Central Asian khanates, this is the name of the special soldier or the rearmost part of the army guarding the lashkar detachment from the rear.
Historians, relying on the works of Alisher Navoi, point out that the suffix vul (for example: hirovul, garovul, yasovul, bakovul) means military and palace staff. In this regard, Chindovul can mean "the rearmost part of the army".
According to another source, chindovul is a helmet-shaped percussion instrument covered with leather on one side of the Uzbek and Tajik peoples. Used in military campaigns and various ceremonies. Chindovul was attached to the horseman's saddle and was beaten with a stick or a whip handle.

Local residents believe that this name is derived from the Tajik word "chin" (termoq), which means "flower blossom". However, linguist T. Nomonov rejects this idea, because this meaning has not been proven in the historical formation of the region.

Chindovul = Chin (Chinese ethnonym) + Ovul (residence)
The meaning of "Chinese village" is hidden here. During the development of the language, the consonant "d" was added to the compound "Chin-ovul" and became a single name.
