It was founded on September 29, 1926. Shafirkon is located 40 km from the regional center.
There is a lot of information about the origin of the district in the work "History of Bukhara" by the historian Narshahi who lived in the 10th century. According to the work, Shapur, one of the children of Kisro, representative of the Sassanid dynasty, comes to Bukhara region after disobeying his father. Here he will be well received by Bukhorkhudot.
Shapur loved to hunt and often hunted in remote places. One day he went to the present Shafirkon lands for hunting. Since that area is still unimproved, it is a meadow and a place for hunting, so Shapur likes this place and has the idea to improve it. For this purpose, he asks Bukhorkhudot to give him a share. He agrees. First of all, Shopur digs a big anhor here and calls it by his name, that is, Shopurkom. Then villages are built along the river. In one of these villages, that is, in the village of Vardona, he built a castle in order to have a residence for himself. After his death, the villages will be inherited by his descendants. In this way, the city of Shafirkon will be built.
Trade and crafts developed in Shafirkon in the Middle Ages. Some information is also given in Mahmud ibn Wali's work "Bahr al-asrar" ("Geography" of the 17th century). According to the famous writer Sadriddin Aini, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Shafirkon and its surrounding villages were covered with sand several times.
The territory of the district consists mainly of plains and sand dunes. The northern part is connected to the foothills of Kuljuktov (Gujumdi mountain) and Kyzylkum (Jilvan and Toldi massifs), and the southern part is connected to the irrigated lands of the Zarafshan valley.
