The New Year, which is celebrated every year in a cheerful spirit and is especially looked forward to by children, brings joy and happiness to the hearts of people. The following interesting information about this holiday can be mentioned.

* A Christmas tree decorated with a sparkling electric garland with various lights was first installed in 1895 near the White House in the United States. 

* The first Christmas tree balls made of glass were made in Thuringia (Saxony) in the 16th century. The mass production of Christmas decorations in Saxony gained momentum only in the 19th century. 

* The tallest artificial tree in the world, included in the Guinness Book of Records, has a height of 110 meters (equivalent to a 40-story building) and was erected in 2009 on Pas'o de la Reforma in Mexico City. The length of electric garlands that decorated this Christmas tree, installed by 200 workers over two months, was about 80 kilometers.  

* In ancient times, it was customary not to wait for gifts from Santa Claus, but to give them to him. 

* The first musketry was held on New Year's Eve in 1700 by order of Peter I.

* In Myanmar (Burma), this holiday coincides with the hottest period of the year. Therefore, everyone goes out and pours cold water on each other, and this day is called the "water festival".
